Abehenase Cargill D/A Primary gets classroom block

Cargill Ghana Limited and Care International have constructed an additional two-unit classroom block with office and store for the Abehenase Cargill D/A Primary School in the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District in the Central Region.

The block, constructed at a cost of GHC 46,000, was funded by General Mills, a company based in the United States of America that purchases cocoa powder from Cargill.

The project was executed under the Cargill Rural Education Project to improve education in its catchment areas.

Cargill has also cut the sod for the construction of two other classroom blocks for the school to provide a conducive learning environment for the pupils.

The Managing Director of Cargill Ghana Limited, Mr Michiel Jehee, said his outfit was particular about improving education in its operational areas under the Cargill Rural Education Project.

According to him, Cargill received funds from General Mills towards the construction of the school block in its quest to improve the standard of education in cocoa growing areas and appealed to the Ghana Education Service (GES) to post more teachers to the school to enhance teaching and learning.

He urged parents to enrol their wards in the school, and further urged the teachers and people in the community to take proper care of the school to prolong its lifespan.

District Chief Executive

The District Chief Executive for the Asikuma-Odoben- Brakwa District, Mr Samuel Adom Botchway, commended Cargill for its commitment towards improving education in the area since 2013.

He said the government welcomed the immense, contributions of private institutions especially in the education sector, towards improving the standard of education in the country.

The Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District Director of Education, Mrs Martha Acquah, indicated that before the establishment of the school in 2013, children in the area had to walk to Bedum and Asikuma to attend school, which posed a great danger to their lives.

The Headmistress of the school, Miss Patience Erzoah, said the school which was started in 2013 with 40 pupils, currently had a population of 90 pupils.

She appealed for places of convenience and teaching aids and more teachers to enhance teaching and learning in the school.
