Abrem Essiaman to get chps compound

The Member of Parliament for the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Constituency, Dr Nana Ato Arthur, has cut the sod for the construction of a Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHIPS) compound at Abrem Essiaman in the KEEA. The GH¢ 80,000 project is expected to be completed by the close of the year .

At a ceremony to cut the sod, Dr Arthur said the community was chosen for the project due to their commitment to communal labour.

The Chief of Abrem Essiaman, Nana Wiredu III, said it was his desire  for the community to have a healthcare centre.

He said accessing health care in the area had become an albatross on their necks as they had to travel far to access health care.

He stated that the community internally generated some funds to start a clinic but the facility was abandoned at the foundation level due to lack of funds.

Nana Wiredu expressed joy over the initiative and thanked Dr Ato Arthur for considering the healthcare needs of the people of Abrem Essiaman, adding that they would do their part to ensure that the project was completed.

The Municipal Health Director of KEEA, Mr Kofi Quaning, said the chips compound would reduce the pressure on the health facilities in the cities.

He added that it would also help the people to get access to first aid before they were referred to healthcare centres.

He admonished the community to form a volunteer community health committee to oversee the activities of the chips compound and to take care of its maintenance.

Mr Quaning assured that nurses would be posted to man the facility.

He, however, expressed worry over the municipality’s inability to meet its required number of chips compound.

He noted that the KEEA was supposed to have 25 chips compounds but had only eight and that the new one to be constructed was a relief to the health directorate.

Dr Ato Arthur also inspected the Abrem Essiaman’s school’s library which was constructed by a group of philanthropist.

He assured the community of his support to put the library to a good use.

Dr Arthur also  cut  the sod for an expansion work to begin at the Komenda Health Centre.

The expansion work, which is estimated at GH¢20,000, would be completed by the end of 2014  to help the facility to cater for the growing population of the area.

The Physician Assistant of the Komenda Health Centre, Mr Ebenezer Omane-Agyekum, said the health centre faced problems when it rained and also during the afternoons.
