A major fire that gutted the Budget Deco warehouse near the Graphic Press in Adabraka, Accra, has been contained and extinguished after nearly eight hours of intense firefighting operations by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
The incident began on Thursday, October 2, 2025, when a distress call was placed at 16:12 hours.
The first appliance from the Accra City Fire Station arrived at 16:19 to find the blaze already at an advanced stage. By 19:02, firefighters had confined the fire to the affected warehouse, bringing it under control at 20:42. It was finally extinguished at 23:52.
In total, six additional fire appliances, a turntable ladder, a GNFS water tanker, and two private water tankers were mobilised to the scene. The prolonged blaze destroyed curtains, floor carpets, flowers, upholstery, woollen carpets, and furniture, while parts of the warehouse structure collapsed due to the heat.
Despite the scale of the fire, adjoining properties, including a warehouse containing rice, a nearby hotel, and the DTRT textile and clothing warehouse, were saved by the swift intervention of firefighters.
The GNFS confirmed that one firefighter suffered smoke inhalation and was rushed to hospital for treatment.
Deputy Director of Operations, ACFO II Osmond Anum, and the Greater Accra Regional Commander, ACFO II Rashid Nisawu, together with other senior officers, provided leadership on the ground to support the teams tackling the blaze.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, with investigations underway.
In a statement, the GNFS expressed appreciation to all supporting agencies whose collaboration contributed to the successful containment of the inferno.
