Adjei Boateng takes a bow

The Director of Newspapers at the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), Mr Yaw Boadu-Ayeboafoh, has commended Mr Samuel Adjei Boateng, a senior photojournalist, for the selfless service he rendered to the company.

He said Mr Boateng, who has retired, had left a legacy that was worth celebrating and emulating by others in the company.

He was speaking at the send-off party in honour of Mr Boateng who retired after 38 years of service to the company.

Mr Boadu-Ayeboafoh also commended Mr Boateng for his dedication, continuous commitment and contribution to the success and growth of the company

“In your years of service with the company, you exhibited complete selflessness and extreme commitment and that is a character worth emulating,” he said.

Mr Boadu-Ayeboafoh added that Mr Boateng would be remembered for this and the many other sacrifices he made to advance the  interest of the company.

As a symbol of appreciation, Mr Boateng was presented with a fridge by the Newspapers Department. He was also adorned with a smock and given other presents by the Photo Unit while he received gifts from individual members of staff of the company as well.

In response, Mr Boateng stated that he was appreciative of the love and support shown him.

“I am humbled by this. I was really not expecting this and I am grateful to all of you for that,” he said.

He said he learnt not only to be a hard-working person but was also strengthened by the bond and support from fellow workers.

He expressed his gratitude to the editorial section of the company, especially to his colleagues at the photo section for their co-operation and understanding, saying: “I am thankful to the Newspapers Department, especially to my colleagues at the photos department, for supporting me throughout my stay with GCGL.”

Mr Boateng advised the workers to work hard - and with dedication - as journalism was a profession which required passion and complete dedication. He added that their work was what would speak for them in their absence, so they should strive to leave a positive mark.

Background

Mr Samuel Adjei Boateng started working with GCGL Head Office in Accra in 1977 and was transferred to the Takoradi office in 1979, where he worked till 2001 when he was transferred back to Accra.

In Takoradi, he covered all areas, including sports, showbiz, lifestyle, politics, health, and education.

He was assigned to the Castle, Osu, where he used to cover former President John Agyekum Kufuor and his vice, Aliu Mahama, from 2002 to 2009.
