Aftermath of Tip Toe Lane fire [video]

Several buildings on Tip Toe lane at the Kwame Nkrumah circle burst into flames at around10 PM last night, causing no casualties but inflicting significant property damage to homes and businesses.

When the fire broke out, it sent flames over 20 feet into the air as residents rushed from their homes and businesses to safety, stranding many overnight. A battalion from the Ghana National Fire Service battled the blaze for several hours before bringing it under control shortly after midnight.

The forensic investigation began in earnest later this morning, with scores of police officers on the scene to investigate. While the official cause of the fire remains unknown, according to eyewitness reports a poorly wired electrical meter is a possible culprit.

An officer on the scene commented that it is not uncommon for residents in this area to connect multiple lines to a single meter.
