The acting President of the Kwahu Traditional Council, Nana Asiedu Agyeman III, has commended the government for the ongoing construction of an ultra-modern hospital in Abetifi in the Eastern Region.

He said on completion, apart from serving the people of Abetifi, the hospital will also provide quality services for all the communities on the Kwahu Ridge.

Nana Agyeman made the commendation at a mini durbar in Abetifi held in honour of President John Dramani Mahama last Thursday when he inspected the project.

Most health facilities in the Kwahu area are owned by Christian organisations and private individuals.

Water supply

On water supply, Nana Agyeman noted that the completion of the Kwahu-Kumawu-Konongo water project, which is expected to be completed this year, would go a long way to solve the perennial water crisis on the ridge.

He commended the government for the numerous projects it had initiated in the area, particularly in the area of education, including the construction of a community day senior high school at Acheamfour, near Maame Krobo in the Afram Plains.

He appealed to the government to reconstruct the Atibie-Odweanoma road leading to the paragliding site to boost tourism in the area.

Activities of Fulani herdsmen

On the activities of Fulani herdsmen, Nana Agyeman, who is the Chief of Abetifi, complained about the destruction of farms by the herds of the Fulanis and said as a result some people were deserting their communities

He prayed that there would be peace before, during and after this year’s elections and urged political parties not to trade insults but rather "tell Ghanaians what they can do and what have been done to the growth of the country".

Responding, President Mahama said the government would continue to work hard to bring quality health care to the doorstep of the people.

He said it was the determination of his government that after his second term in office all districts would have hospitals.

He said road contractors who had abandoned their sites would be directed to go back and complete their projects.

On the Fulani herdsmen, President Mahama explained that the National Security Council, through the various regional security councils in the affected areas, was working to see how best to solve the problem and expressed the hope that the chiefs in those areas would collaborate with the security agencies to ensure peace.

The President also inspected the Kwahu Ridge water expansion works at Kotoso on the Afram River.
