The facility which was put up ostensibly for the girls’ dormitories of the school has 20 toilet seats and 16 squatting toilets with a capacity to generate gas and electricity. It was put up at a cost of GH¢186,000 and pre-financed by the Asuogyaman Rural Bank Ltd.

Additionally, the facility comes with a borehole and an overhead tank to supply water constantly for flushing the toilets.

Meanwhile, the boys’ dormitories are to also benefit from an ongoing 20-seater toilet facility from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund).

Inaugurating the toilet facility for the girls, the Headmaster of the school, Mr Emmanuel Kwadwo Tawiah, acknowledged the immense role played by the Omanhene of Akwamuman, Nana Kwafo Akoto III, the 1996 year group of the Old Students Association of the school, the Volta River Authority (VRA), the Member of Parliament for the area and the Asuogyaman District Assembly.

According to him, on September 13, 2014, the toilet at the girls’ dormitory caved in at a time when the students were in their classrooms.

He said the situation became so critical that students had to attend to nature’s call in unconventional ways.

In view of this, he said, an appeal was made to the PTA, organisations and individuals for assistance to construct a new toilet facility for the girls.

He said lands belonging to the school, which was originally 100 acres in size, had been encroached upon, leaving 70 acres so far untouched.

Under the circumstances, Mr Tawiah has urged stakeholders and public-spirited individuals and organisations to help build a fence around the school in order to protect its land.

He also urged the PTA and old students to further assist the school with more classrooms in order that the large class sizes would be reduced. He said the provision of new classrooms would also accelerate the introduction of new courses and subjects such as Agriculture, Ga Dangme and Ewe.

He urged teachers in the area to take advantage of a distance learning programme introduced by the University of Cape Coast (UCC) in the area to upgrade themselves professionally.

The Member of Parliament for the area, Mr Kofi Osei-Ameyaw, who is an old student of the school, donated 2,500 blocks, 100 bags of cement and two trips of sand all worth GH¢10,000 to the school. He further pledged to continue to support the school in its development drive.

The Bank Manager of the Asuogyaman Rural Bank, Mr Martin Amponsah Nyame, presented 16 buckets of paint and other pigments to the school.

He said the bank pre-financed the project at no interest and urged parents and guardians of students in the school to acquire shares in the bank in order to strengthen its capital base and enhance its operational activities.
