Out of the number of cases received, 806 were on rent, which increased from 759 in 2012 because of the inability of tenants to settle their bills after their term of occupancy had expired.
Other cases handled by the Ashaiman office of the ADR included issues bordering on debt recovery, child maintenance, marital problems, land litigation and minor assault.
These were included in its 2013 annual report addressed to the Appeal Court Judge by Justice Irene Danquah, who is in charge of ADR, and signed by the Ashiaman Central ADR Officers, Ms Justina Attivor, Mr Gabriel Atsu, Mr Herbert Mensah and Mr Kingsley Kutiame
According to the report, though the Ashaiman Office of the ADR is located in the central business area of the municipality, it received cases from Lashibi, Nungua, Teshie, Tema, Tema Manhean, Afienya, Prampram and Ningo, among others.
It said most debt cases reported to the office involved female traders who had sold on credit basis but had been unable to collect their money while others involved people who had defaulted in paying back their contributions after collecting their share of the ‘susu’.
The report noted that on child maintenance, women reported men for neglecting their responsibilities as fathers.
On marital issues, the report stated that women had been victims of such situations since the men had woefully failed to finance their domestic activities.
It said in other cases the men either vacated marital homes or brought in other girlfriends to the detriment of their wives.
Cases on multiple land sale, according to the report, were also reported to the Ashiaman ADR office and were successfully handled.
The office appealed for more trained officers to strengthen its human resource base and adequate structures to house the office.
