Driver gaoled two years for stealing credit cards

A Tarkwa circuit court, has sentenced Jacob Degbortse, a 31- year-old driver, to two years imprisonment for stealing credit cards worth GH₵ 6,600.

He pleaded guilty.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Florence Tawiah told the court presided over by Mr Samuel Obeng Diawuo that on November 30, 2013, Degbortse who worked with Faanash Company Limited as a supplier of credit cards absconded with the daily sales.

According to the Prosecutor, the wife of the convict, Gloria Addison a cleaner in the same company also bolted after the husband was nowhere to be found.

She said on December 5, the complainant’s husband spotted Gloria at Kwesimintsim, a suburb of Takoradi and arrested her to the police station to assist the police to look for her husband.

Degbortse followed to the police station and after giving his explanation to the officer on duty he was arrested and his wife was released.

Chief Inspector Tawiah said the convict was brought to the Tarkwa police station and during interrogation; he admitted the offense and pleaded with the police to pay the money.

She said after he made part payment of GH₵3,100, he refused to pay the remaining amount and went into hiding.

The Prosecutor said on April 6, the convict was arrested at Apowa and was arraigned.
