The assailants allegedly opened fire on Frimpong, 33, a small-scale miner, in front of his house at Atwima Tekyiman.

He was about to drive into his house in his Toyota Couzer vehicle, with registration number AW 9811-13, when the assailants, said to be five in number, opened fire and killed him instantly.

Police sources said the incident occurred around 8:40 p.m. last Monday.

Another occupant of the vehicle, identified only as Mohammed, alias BB, sustained gunshot wounds but had since been treated and discharged.

Two Chinese, who were also said to be in the vehicle, however, escaped unhurt.

Confirming the incident to the Daily Graphic, the Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Yussif Tanko, said the police were following up on a number of leads.

He, however, declined to give an indication of those leads.

Frimpong’s body has been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital mortuary awaiting autopsy.
