Atomfourso, a community near Seikwa in the Tain District in the Brong Ahafo Region, is considering a special day to honour some distinguished personalities in the district who led the campaign for the creation of the Tain District.

The Tain District was carved out of the Wenchi District in 2002. The objective was to fast-track the socio-economic transformation and development of the area.

Among the distinguished persons are Nana Ekye Nsowah-Adjei, Chief of Atomfourso, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Victor Donkor, and Ansu Tia. Messrs Kofi Num Dwommoh and Kofi Agyei, who are both deceased, will be honoured posthumously.  Other personalities who are also to receive recognition will include some paramount chiefs in the region.

The Chief of Atomfourso said this at a durbar of chiefs and people of the town. He said it was proper that those persons were honoured for ensuring that the district was created in the face of stiff opposition.

He told the people that they should endeavour to make sacrifices in order to make life better for themselves and others, particularly as the district struggled to address poverty which was endemic in the area.

Nana Ekye Nsowah-Adjei promised to revive blacksmithing, which was the oldest vocation of the people in the area, from dying as his contribution to employment generation for the youth.

He said consultations were currently underway for the opening of an Institute for Employable Skills in the community to provide vocational training for the youth.

He observed that an internet website to help promote the community globally would soon be launched.
