Band leader killed by hit-and-run driver

The leader of an Akyem Asene-based live band, Bright Kwadwo Asante, died at Akyem Oda last Saturday night when he was killed by a hit-and-run driver.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue of the Oda Government Hospital for autopsy while the Oda police have mounted an intensive search for the killer driver, Kofi Sammy, who is on the run. 

Briefing the Daily Graphic at Oda on Monday, the Oda Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent James Sarfo-Peprah, said around 7:45 pm last Saturday, January 3, 2015, Asante, who had assembled his instruments at the Mascot drinking spot at Oda, sent a lady friend to buy him kenkey and fish from a kenkey seller opposite the Oda old site of Hecta International Institutions .

He said while waiting for the lady near the Oda traffic light, a KIA Trade truck with registration number GR5707-V loaded with beams, emerged at a terrific speed. 

According to Chief Supt Sarfo-Peprah, Kofi Sammy, who defied the red traffic light, branched towards the Vodafone Head Office intersection  at Oda speeding. 

He said all of a sudden, the driver lost control of the vehicle, ran into a gutter and the beams fell on Asante who was standing by the side of the road, killing him instantly.

The Divisional Commander said Kofi Sammy would face the full rigours of the law whenever he was arrested at his hideout.
