The project, which was completed within two years at a cost GH¢1,005,800.75, was executed by the Bizgeo Company Limited.

The absence of potable water in the town compelled the community members to draw water from the River Ochi, which is the main river in the area, and a few boreholes as their source of drinking water.

Facilities provided as part of the project included three boreholes, two pump houses and 1,200 metre transmission pipeline.

The rest were an office for the water board to manage the project, an 80 metre cube elevated reinforced concrete reservoir, as well as 12 standpipes in various parts of the community.

CWSA

Madam Pauline Abrefi Oppong, the Head of Extension Services at the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) in the Central Region said the project was executed to solve the water situation in the area and also to improve sanitation.

She called on the Water and Sanitation Management Team (WSMT), the board that would manage the project to be dedicated and committed to ensure that the facility was properly managed for the long-term benefit of the people.

She further called for regular maintenance of the facility for it to last since huge funds had been invested in the project by the sponsors.

The District Chief Executive for Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa, Mr Albert Kwesi Inkoom, thanked the World Bank for funding the expansion of water supply to the community.

He admonished the board and members of the community to work together and ensure that the project benefited future generations.

Gratitude

The regent of the town, Nana Kofi Nyarkoh, expressed gratitude to the World Bank and the government for providing them with the facility.

He said the community would monitor the operations of the board to ensure the efficient management of the project.
