Residents of Buokrom Estate in Kumasi have called for the rehabilitation of roads in the area which they have described as disturbing.

They said because of the horrible nature of the road, many commercial vehicles were refusing to operate from there.

The residents claimed that under the circumstances, those drivers who endured the situation had taken undue advantage and were charging exorbitant fares.

The Assemblywoman for Buokrom, Madam Margaret Barwuah, said workers and traders who commute to the city centre daily for business “have been going through a lot of trouble”.

She said the situation often got worse after 4 p.m. each day and therefore there was the need for the roads to be repaired.

She said even though the repair works had been awarded on contract and bridge culverts already fixed, for unexplained reasons the contractor had abandoned the project.

Madam Barwuah also complained about the lack of street lights in the area which  was creating security problems.

According to her, the area needs about streetlights.

She said the present state of living in darkness was providing perfect conditions for thieves to operate with impunity, snatching bags and other valuables from people.

Madam Bawuah praised the Ashanti Regional Police Administration for opening a police post in the community to help tackle crime.

She further urged the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to speed up construction works on two mechanised boreholes it had begun in South Africa and E-Line, both residential areas within the estate.
