LaDMA arrests 18 for abusing the environment
The La Dadekotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA) Task Force has arrested 18 persons in a dawn swoop for allegedly defecating and throwing refuse at unauthorised places in the municipality.

A combined team from the Ghana Police Service and the LaDMA Task Force arrested the culprits.
In an interview, the LaDMA Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Ms Rita Odoley Sowah, told the Daily Graphic that the assembly embarked on the operation to draw residents’ attention to the need to keep their environment clean in view of the recent outbreak of cholera in Accra.
According to her, the assembly has built public toilets and provided dump sites at vantage points in the municipality, so there is no justification for people to litter the environment.
"There is no justification for dumping refuse at unauthorised places and defecating in the open,” she stated.
Ms Sowah said the assembly was going to enforce the ultimatum it gave landlords in the municipality about six months ago asking them to provide toilets in their houses. She said the measure was part of efforts to keep the community clean and free from diseases.
She expressed regret that even when a non-governmental organisation decided to provide affordable toilets for landlords who had financial difficulties to buy and pay in instalments, they refused the offer.
"This development has become a matter of great concern to the assembly and all interested parties," she said.

She added that the assembly had given landlords who did not have toilets a month to provide them or face the consequences.
She also said the decision to arrest people who defecated in the open and dumped refuse indiscriminately would be sustained and those found culpable would be arraigned before court to serve as a deterrent to others.
