John Selasi Wills, alias Jonny, a driver and a carpenter, pleaded not guilty to the offences of conspiracy to commit crime, unlawful entry, stealing,  causing unlawful damage, possession of stolen property while Mohammed Yakubu, a mobile phone repairer also pleaded not guilty to the offence of dishonest receiving.

The court, presided over by Mr Francis Obiri, found Yakubu and Wills guilty of the offences after a full trial and sentenced Wills to 20 years jail term and Yakubu to two years imprisonment.

Yakubu and Wills, together with two other accomplices currently at large, were said to have forcibly entered the victim’s house and made away with a Mercedes Benz car , a home theatre, sony hifi stereo, two plasma televisions,  a laptop, watches and an unspecified amount of  US dollars.

Prosecuting Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) P.A. Morkeh, told the court that the complainant, Solomon Dankwah Mills, is a business man and resides at Adenta Housing and also a caretaker of his brother’s house, Kwabena Wadie, who is domiciled in Holland.

On November 17, 2012, he said, Yakubu and Wills and their accomplices went to Mr Wadie’s house and made away with the items

He said Mr Mills, who went to inspect the house, detected the theft and lodged a complaint at the Adenta Police  Station for investigation.

A few months later, the prosecution said Wills approached a witness in the case that he was selling a car . The witness showed interest and asked the convict to show him the car.

The prosecutor said Wills showed the witness where the car was parked  and the witness, who knew about the car theft on seeing it, reported to the police.

He said the police traced Wills to the Volta Region where the car was parked to arrest him but he was not  found. The police brought  the vehicle to the Accra Regional Police Headquarters.

On July, 24, last year,  the prosecutor said Wills was arrested at Spintex and he admitted to the offence in his caution statement.

He said Wills also mentioned Yakubu as the one who received theTV sets from him but Yakubu denied receiving the said items.
