Civil Service policy fair underway

The Civil Service Policy Fair has taken off with a renewed call for improved public sector service delivery, citizen engagement and accountability.

The week-long event, which opened in Accra on July 21, 2025, aims to bridge the gap between civil service institutions and the general public through education, dialogue and on-the-spot service support.

The event, organised by the Office of the Head of Civil Service (OHCS), which is taking place at the National Sports Authority (NSA) in Accra, has drawn participation from a wide range of ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).

While opening the fair, the Head of the Civil Service, Dr Evans Aggrey-Darkoh, emphasised that adapting to technological change was no longer optional for public institutions.

“As the world embraces digital transformation, the civil service must position itself to deliver services that are not only efficient but also citizen-focused and transparent. This fair allows us to engage the public, learn from one another and promote innovation across the sector,” he said.

Dr Aggrey-Darkoh said the fair was to serve as a platform for showcasing innovative practices, engaging directly with citizens, and reaffirming the civil service’s commitment to modernisation and excellence.

Fair

The fair is one of the major highlights of the 2025 Civil Service Week Celebration and 2024 Awards Ceremony, which was held on the theme: “Adapting to Automation, Artificial Intelligence and E-Governance: The Civil Service in Contemporary Ghana”.

Participating institutions include the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Ghana Enterprises Agency, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, the Department of Births and Deaths Registry, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), the Mental Health Authority and the Information Services Department.

Beyond the exhibitions, the fair features on-the-spot public services such as National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registration and renewal, Ghana Card registration and updates, passport enquiries, business registration support, health screening, fire safety education among others.

In addition, local entrepreneurs and artisans are also exhibiting Made-in-Ghana products, adding colour and community spirit to the fair.

The week-long celebration will run through to Friday, July 25, 2025.

Participants

A visitor to the Births and Deaths Registry stand, Abigail Tetteh, shared her satisfaction after following up on her children’s birth certificates.

“I’ve been trying to resolve some issues with my children’s birth certificates for months.

Coming here made it so easy. I spoke to someone directly and now everything is being sorted out. It saved me so much time and stress,” she said.

Another attendee, Kwame Mensah, who visited the ECG stand, said, “My meter runs very fast and I’ve been worried about my bills.

I came here to ask questions, and the staff explained possible reasons and how I can request a technical inspection. This kind of access is very helpful.”

The Director-General of the National Sports Authority, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, said in a sector often fraught with miscommunication and misinformation, the initiative would help bridge gaps and foster collaboration.

“I’m proud to host and support this important national event, which gives me a lot of pride and I'm very happy,” he said.
