Turkson was said to have collected Gh¢6,000 from Daniel Osei Assibey to help clear his goods from the Tema port.

However, Turkson pleaded not guilty to the charge of defrauding by false pretence and was granted bail in the sum of GH¢8,000 with two sureties.

The facts of the case as presented by Sergeant Salifu Nashiru to the court, presided over by Mr Frank Yao Gbeddy,  were that Assibey had earlier on shipped four cars and personal effects but the container got locked up at the Tema Harbour.

Sgt Nashiru said Assibey, who arrived in the country on March 12, 2014 met Turkson and he offered to help clear the goods.

Sgt Nashiru said Turkson demanded and collected a cash of GH¢6, 000 as well as the  original bill of lading from Assibey, under the pretext of using same to clear the goods from the harbour.

However, on September 19 this year, Turkson informed Assibey that he was facing some challenges at the harbour and for that reason he could no longer clear the goods.

Sgt Nashiru said Assibey therefore demanded his money and documents from Turkson but he could not produce them.

As a result, Assibey became alarmed and made a report to the police.

Sgt Nashiru said Turkson was arrested and was charged with the offence after investigations.

The case was adjourned to December 16, 2014.
