They said the bad nature of the road was endangering the lives of travelers, especially the sick who have to be transported in emergencies situations.

Additionally, the residents have complained that the bad road was slowing down their socio-economic activities.

Mr Kwasi Adu Gyamfi, the Headmaster, of the Aduman Senior High School (SHS), told Ghana News Agency that the situation "is very disturbing".

He said about one-third of the 3,000 student population were day students and they 'go through hell to attend classes.'

He said the bad road had become a huge disincentive to the school because it has increased the traveling time and raised the cost of vehicle maintenance.

The GNA visited the area as part of a media project to audit and track development projects in the country.

The media project is an initiative launched with support from Strengthening Accountability and Responsiveness (STAR) - Ghana's to help put a spotlight on how government's resources were impacting on the lives of the people, particularly, the rural population.

STAR-Ghana is a multi-donor pooled funding mechanism (Funded by DFID, DANIDA, EU and USAID) to increase the influence of civil society and Parliament in the governance of public goods and service delivery, with the ultimate goal of improving the accountability and responsiveness of Ghana's government, traditional authorities and the private sector.

Mr Robert Gyamfi, the assembly member, said commercial transport drivers who brave the terrible condition, charge arbitrary and unreasonably high fares.

The result is that the predominantly farming population find it difficult to transport their farm products to Kumasi and other urban centres.
