Conference hall for Ashanti Police inaugurated

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has commended the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mr Nathan Kofi Boakye, for restoring confidence in the Police Service in the region.

He said the sense of insecurity and the lack of confidence in the police which were the situation in the region in the past were no more.

He added that since Mr Boakye assumed office as the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, investor confidence, which was fast eroding in the region as a result of crime, had been restored, while there had been an impressive decline in violent crime within the period.

Confidence

The Asantehene made the commendation at the inauguration of the 250-seating capacity conference hall for the Ashanti Regional Police Command last Wednesday.

It is named after the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan.

The hall was built through the contributions of individuals and corporate organisations in the region.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu noted that the confidence reposed in the police by the public was the reason people made contributions towards the construction of the conference hall.

He urged the regional police command to continue with the good work and assured the Police Service of the support of the Manhyia Palace in the service’s bid to maintain security and peace in the region.

Interference

The Asantehene advised the regional commander not to allow any traditional authority or political party to interfere with his work and urged him do his work without fear or favour.

He also cautioned chiefs in the region who engaged the services of land guards to desist from that practice and asked the police to deal with those chiefs, especially those who connived with some policemen to sell land.

Commendation

Mr Alhassan commended Mr Boakye for undertaking development projects without financial support from the Police Administration since assuming office less than 10 months ago.

“It takes selflessness, determination and initiative to change things,” he said.

The IGP said it was the policy of the Police Administration to complete all abandoned projects and provide a facelift for existing structures.

Mr Boakye, for his part, thanked all who contributed to the project and singled out the members of the Ridge Keep Fit Club for their support.
