Fourteen people arrested for illegal mining at Akyem Muoso in the Eastern Region have been granted bail in the sum of GH¢350,000 each by the Koforidua Circuit Court B.
Each suspect is to provide two sureties, one of whom must be justified with movable property.
The arrests were carried out on Thursday, May 15, 2025, by the Eastern South Regional Police Command during an operation at the mining site.
The suspects were arraigned before the court on Friday, May 16.
According to a statement published by the Ghana Police Service on Monday, May 19, 2025, a pump-action gun was retrieved from one of the accused, Zuberu Nuhoho, during the arrest. Police say Nuhoho failed to produce documentation for the weapon.
Two excavator control boards were also recovered from the site, which police say forms part of their ongoing efforts to clamp down on illegal mining activities in the region.
