Crystal Health Services to expand operations

Private healthcare provider, New Crystal Health Services (NCSH), has secured about $5.7 million in capital injection to be able to serve a wider range of income groups, including high income earners.

The capital injection comprises a loan of $2.5 million from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector arm of the World Bank, and equity of €3 million from impact investment group, Investisseurs and Partenaires (I&P), headquartered in France.

NCSH secured the additional capital to embark on a project that will lead to completely new and ultra-modern hospitals in Ashaiman and Tema, while other facilities at Michel Camp, Adjei Kojo and Afienya, all within the Ashaiman enclave, will receive significant facelift.

This is part of the health provider’s agenda to expand and acquire state-of-the-art equipment to provide additional essential services such as intensive care, paediatric care and (complex) surgical services, and care for lifestyle diseases.

With this inflow, NCHS is turning its facilities into centres of excellence in the delivery of general care by using modern equipment operated by skilled staff in a patient-friendly environment.

The proposed new construction, extension and renovation works will enable NCHS to attract a larger patient base by integrating larger range of income groups.

History

NCSH has since its inception in 2003 catered largely for the low income bracket within the Ashaiman and Tema enclave.

However, these communities keep expanding with several first class residential areas emerging, creating a need to also serve that segment of the market.

Catchment area

The Chief Executive Officer of NCHS, Dr Wisdom Amegbletor, explained that its catchment area now had a wider range of income groups who needed quality health care.

He said the expansion of the facilities was, therefore, necessary to cater for the dynamic nature of the area.

He, however, stressed that the expansion would not adversely affect its traditional low income base.

“The firm base of patients will not be excluded by providing buildings that may feel uncomfortable and unfamiliar to them. We are only seeking to ensure that all the income groups are served,” he stressed.

New Crystal currently provides a range of services, including general clinical care, antenatal, obstetrics, gynaecology, dentistry, laboratory and x-ray, pharmaceutical, and simple in-patient services.

It has seven networked hospitals in the Ashaiman and Tema area, and Takoradi in the Western Region.
