Major rehabilitation works has commence on the side link of the  Hansonic to mallam highway.

Over a year now, the road has been flooded with dirty water which has caused the road to be abandon by drivers in the area.

He added that the place has become a breeding place for mosquitoes.

This, he noted poses as health risk to residents so until the drain is cleared the road cannot be rehabilitated.

“There is gutter, even as we speaking we are constructing a big drain but the problem is that the thing is block, there is a very big drain which we can even use car to pass under but it is just that the thing has been blocked, so when we finish desilting it all the problem will be solve which we are doing”, he explained.

He said although the problem has been then before he took over office, all measures are being put in place under his leadership to solve the problem.

“It is the duty of the municipal assembly to see to it that every part of the municipality is clean”, he said.

MCE Lauded

For his part, Assemble member for Otatey, Mr Patrick Kpakpo wh has been the assembly member in that area for close to eight years said a number of contractors have tried to fix the road but to no avail.

He therefore lauded the MCE of the area for heeding to the cry of the people under his jurisdiction,"I am much grateful that the drains which is the cost of the destruction of the road would be fix as well as the road".

A bookman in charge of Kaneshie station at Odorkor station, Mr. Azuma said the maintenance of the road has become a major problem for the people in the area.

He added that as the drain is being constructed, the MCE should keep to their promise and patch the potholes in the inner carriage so that the abandon link road can be used again.

"The overflowed gutter has been here for more than a year and it is worrisome. The smells from the gutter is affecting our daily lives and is making it difficult in making sale at the end of the day so we appreciate the fact that something is being done about it.”
