Don’t privatize ADB – Organised Labour tells Prez Mahama

Organised Labour has urged the government not to privatise the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), which it said had been set up to support agriculture in the country.

Speaking at the 2015 National May Day parade held at the Independence Square in Accra, the Secretary General of the Trades Union Congress ( TUC), Mr Kofi Asamoah  – who delivered a speech on behalf of Organised Labour- said ADB must remain a public asset.

He called on President John Mahama not to approve of plans to privatise ADB.

Mr Asamoah said: “We have been informed that plans are fast advanced to privitise ADB. We appeal to you not to approve that arrangement.

“The crave to sell public assets among private businessmen and businesses should be discouraged.

"Public assets must remain public assets.”

Organised Labour also called on the government not to privatise the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) or introduce private sector participation into its operations.

The mother union further called on President John Mahama to immediately fix the power crisis, which it said had led to the loss of jobs and businesses in the country.

Organised Labour comprises the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT),  National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Polytechnic Teachers Association of Ghana (POTAG), Industrial and Commercial Service Union (ICU) and Judicial Services Staff Assiociation of Ghana (JUSAG.
