Don’t rely on mine operators for sustenance - Apostle Baidoo urges chiefs

The Tarkwa Area Head of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Dr S.K. Baidoo, has appealed to chiefs in the various mining communities not to rely solely on operators of mines for their sustenance.

Rather, he implored traditional authorities to find innovative ways of managing other God-given resources, such as making maximum use of their vast lands to engage in commercial agricultural production for their livelihood.

Apostle Baidoo, who made the appeal when he delivered the sermon at the 14th annual non-denominational thanksgiving service of the AngloGold Ashanti at Tarkwa, also urged the chiefs to encourage the youth to contribute meaningfully towards the successful operations of the mines since they stood to benefit a lot from their profits.

‘‘I call on you our leaders in mining communities to manage the resources that God has blessed you with, especially land and again guard the youth to make contributions that will encourage sustainable development of the area and operation of mining companies,’’ Apostle Baidoo stressed.

The Managing Director of the company, Mr Sicelo Ntuli, noted that although the mine was confronted with some challenges, management had put in place pragmatic measures to deal effectively with them for its survival.

He urged the people to invest properly in the youth as a way of improving human capital for the effective development of the area in particular and the country as a whole.
