Don't dwell on criticisms and challenges of the past - Evangelical Presbyterian Church Moderator
The ongoing transition of power from one government to the other presents Ghanaians with a unique opportunity to reflect on the past, learn from mistakes, and forge a new path towards a brighter future, the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana, Rt. Rev. Dr. Lt. Col. Bliss Divine Agbeko (rtd), has stated.
In his 2025 New Year message, the clergyman called on citizens to approach the new year with "a sense of hope, renewal of our attitude to work and expectations."
Again, he said as a people of faith, Ghanaians must be reminded that the transition to a new government meant that God was doing a new thing for the country.
In that regard, he said it was important for people not to dwell on the criticisms and challenges of the past, but rather learn from the successes and setbacks of the previous administration.
"While we embark on this new journey of hope, I urge our new leaders to build upon the foundation laid by their predecessors, learn from the mistakes of the past, implement measures to correct them with integrity, and replicate the successes and good initiatives that have benefited our nation," he stressed.
While underscoring the need for citizens to hold leaders accountable, the moderator also urged them to support public office holders with good ideas, prayers, wisdom, and constructive feedback.
He further emphasised the need for members of the public to work together to build "a nation that is just, equitable, and prosperous for all."
"As we navigate the complexities of our national life, let us remember that we are all in this together. Let us strive to be good citizens, caring neighbors, to love one another, and to seek the common good of communities," he added.
Rev. Dr Agbeko also called on Ghanaians to be guided by the principles of justice, equity, accountability, compassion, and righteousness in their daily lives.
He said what citizens should look out for was a nation that feared and loved God, honoured His word, and sought His wisdom in all aspects of national life.
Drawing inspiration from Psalm 127:1-2 - unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labour in vain, he said unless the Lord watched over the country, human security was not enough.
"Let us seek the blessings of God and His presence to be with us Ghanaians as we move forward in 2025 and beyond," he said.
He called on all Christians to pray fervently to God God for his direction, guidance, leading, wisdom, and protection in the year ahead.
