EC Savelugu-Nanton office burgled; voter management equipment stolen
Some unidentified persons on Monday broke into the offices of the Electoral Commission at Savelugu-Nanton in the Northern region and stole some electoral equipment.

Items stolen included a Voters Management System (VMS) machine which the commission uses to transfer data on voters after a registration exercise. Other office equipment including computers were also stolen.
The VMS had been installed at the Savelugu EC office since 2012.
The unidentified men were said to have entered the office through a window after they destroyed some louver blades.
The Northern Regional Director of the EC, Mr Bruce Ayisi who confirmed the incident to Graphic Online said the theft would not affect registrants since the data on them from the limited voters registration exercise which ended on Sunday has already been transferred to Accra.
“The EC has got series of backup systems through which we store data”, he said, noting that “once the data is captured at the registration centre, we sent them to head office in Accra”.
He added that “the VMS machine is just like any other computer but just that it has got several components which we use to transfer data to EC’s database in Accra”.
When contacted, the Savelugu-Nanton Municipal Director of EC, John Mensah, said the incident had been reported to the police but no arrest has been made as of now.

He explained that the stolen VMS was not an active one and that the active one had been installed at a different location.
“The VMS machine they took was a dormant one; we have the active one at a different location so it has nothing to do with the data of the new voters”, he said.
