ECG carries out maintenance works on KNUST substation
As part of its effort to improve on power supply to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has carried out maintenance work on the university’s substation.
It is the first time the substation has seen a major maintenance work over the past 40 years following its installation.

Led by the General Manager of Ashanti Sub-transmission of the ECG, Peter Fletcher, the exercise was aimed at improving the reliability of electricity supply to educational institutions in the region and also formed part of the company’s corporate social responsibility.
Rationale
Mr Fletcher explained that as a corporate citizen, “ECG has realised that about 85 per cent of its engineers and non-engineers are being trained by this institution. It is essential for us to give back and ensure that their facilities are well-maintained.”
He said ECG was committed to fostering a strong partnership with KNUST, and would explore further collaborations to enhance the university’s infrastructure and ensure the safety of its electrical systems.
Network
As part of the maintenance, the team fortified the network leading to the substation, repaired and reinforced all the jumpers on the line to ensure a more robust and reliable power supply to the campus.
