KNUST, UENR qualify for TBSC quarter-finals

University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) survived a late charge to secure a quarter-final berth yesterday after beating Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU) by a single point in a nail-biting Round of 16 encounter of the ongoing Graphic Business Tertiary Business Sense Challenge Version 6.0 being staged at the Zenith College at La in Accra.

The thrilling second competition of the day saw the quartet of Noble Africa Boateng, Ebenezer Sackey, Thomas Konlan and David Ampah Benning edging past their counterparts from GCTU, comprising Gloria Nyaletey, Peace Edze, Wilson Ofori and Afi Owusua Owusu by a score of 26.5 to 25.5.

Suspense

There was no room for error in the suspense-filled clash as both sides scaled up their business and accounting prowess in each round.

However, UENR performed creditably in the third and fourth rounds to win the day by that slim margin.

Earlier, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) wiped the floor with Pentecost University, scoring 66 points to 43 points to carry the day and advance to the quarter-finals.

In today's rich line-up, Heritage Christian University will face off with SD Dombo University for Business and Integrated Development Studies, while the University of Education, Winneba, takes on Wisconsin University College.

The exciting competition enters the quarter-final stage on Monday, with the eight qualifying schools hoping to progress to the semi-finals.

The competition is sponsored by the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG), MTN, PWC, GLICO Life, Peeva Beverages, GCB Bank, and Compu Ghana.

Background

The Graphic Business Tertiary Business Sense Challenge (TBSC) has seen remarkable performances from various tertiary institutions across Ghana since its inception.

The University of Cape Coast has emerged as the most decorated institution, clinching the title twice: first in 2019 and again in 2021, solidifying its reputation as a powerhouse in the competition.

Other institutions have also left their mark, with past winners showcasing exceptional business acumen and critical thinking.

While the University of Cape Coast leads the pack, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, University for Development Studies, University of Education, Winneba, and the University of Ghana have consistently been strong contenders, each vying to add their name to the prestigious list of champions.

As the competition evolves, the legacy of these past winners sets a high bar for new and returning participants in the 2025 edition.
