Fire guts Accra Tourist Information Centre - GNFS contain blaze, no casualties reported

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has successfully contained a fire outbreak that occurred at the Accra Tourist Information Centre in the early hours of August 4, 2025.

According to a statement issued by the Service, the fire was reported at 1:02 am, and the first fire engine from the GNFS National Headquarters arrived on the scene just two minutes later, at 1:04 am, only to find a fully developed fire spreading rapidly, aided by strong winds.

Five additional fire appliances from the Flagstaff House, Circle, Accra City, Ministries Fire Stations, and a Rapid Intervention Vehicle (RIV) from Headquarters were quickly mobilised to support the firefighting operation.

The blaze was brought under control by 3:32 am, but efforts to fully extinguish it and prevent further spread to neighbouring buildings continued until 6:35 am, the GNFS confirmed.

“The entire first floor and its contents were completely consumed by the fire. However, the ground floor and about eight offices, including the East Wing section, were successfully salvaged,” the statement said.

The GNFS added that no injuries or fatalities were recorded during the incident and that an investigation has since been launched to determine the cause of the fire.
