Five companies support Farmers Day celebration

Five companies have presented cheques for various amounts,   totalling GH¢15,834, cash and items, in support of this year’s National Farmers Day celebration.

The event is slated for December 6, 2013 at the Sogakofe Senior High School in the Volta Region.

The companies are; Continental Christian Traders (CCT), Panofi Company Limited, Ocean Fare, Raanan Fish Feed and Cheaper Lines Ghana Ltd.

Continental Christian Traders donated a cheque for GH¢5,134, while Raanan Fish Feed gave a cheque for GH¢2,000 and fish feed valued at GH¢1,500.

Ocean Fare presented a cheque for GH¢5,000, Cheaper Lines Ghana Ltd donated GH¢200, while Panofi Company Ltd, a joint Ghana-Korea fishing company, gave a cheque for GH¢ 2,000.

The Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Mr Aquinas T. Quansah, who received the donation on behalf of the ministry, said the government was doing its best to invest more in the agricultural sector, since the sector played a vital role in national development.

He thanked the companies for their support and promised that their contributions would be used for the intended purpose, adding that the government recognised the contribution of the private sector to the success of the Farmers Day celebration.

He appealed to other corporate bodies to emulate the example of the donors.
