The items, which are to be presented to blood donors, include blood tonic, bottled water and soft drinks.

The companies are Tobinco Pharmaceuticals Limited (TPL), Ernest Chemists Limited (ECL), Gokas-Laborex Limited (GLL) and Voltic (GH) Limited.

Dr Jacqui Barnes, the medical officer in charge of the GCGL Clinic, received the items on behalf of the company at its head office in Accra last  Monday.

The blood donation exercise was initiated by the GCGL in 2015 as part of its corporate social responsibility.

The Corporate Communications Manager of Voltic (GH), Ms Joyce Ahiadorme, presented 25 cartons of Voltic mineral water and 25 packs of soft drinks, while the Brand Manager of ECL, Mr Richard Afriyie Twumasi, donated nine boxes of blood tonic towards the exercise.

The Operations Director of the GLL, Ms Diana Wilson-Nsafoah, on behalf of the company, presented 10 boxes of blood tonic valued at GH¢1,700 to the GCGL.

For her part, Ms Linda Adomah, a manager with TPL, presented eight boxes of blood tonic worth GH¢989.

In their interaction with the Daily Graphic, the donors observed that blood was critical to people’s survival, hence their commitment to support the GCGL in the blood donation exercise.

Blood donation

Receiving the items, Dr Barnes lauded the donors for supporting the initiative.

She debunked the notion that  donating blood could affect the health of donors.

According to her, about one out of seven persons who visited health facilities needed blood and, therefore, urged the public to take part in the exercise.

“Our target this year is to get at least 250 donors. Last year, we had a little above 100 volunteers. We want more this year,” Dr Barnes added.
