Ghana, Brazil sign judicial collaboration agreement

The Judicial Service of Ghana and the Supreme Court of Brazil yesterday signed a protocol of co-operation to deepen mutual knowledge and skills and consolidate and reinforce the importance of the Judiciary in a democratic state.

Under the protocol, the two institutions will establish a plan of action, including programmes, projects and co-operation activities, for their mutual benefit.

The acting Chief Justice of Ghana, Mr Justice William Atuguba, and the President of the Brazilian Supreme Court, Mr Joaquim Benedito Barbosa Gomes, initialled the protocol for their respective institutions.

The two institutions are to collaborate through the exchange of experiences and documents, including bibliographic materials, studies, assessment and other statistics that might be of interest to the parties.

At the ceremony were the Brazilian Ambassador to Ghana, Madam Irene Vida Gala, and some justices of the Supreme Court of Ghana.  

Justice Atuguba

In his remarks at the signing ceremony in Accra, Mr Justice Atuguba lauded the long-standing cordial relations between the two countries dating back to 1962.

He said the relationship had since intensified for the betterment of both countries and gave assurance of continued collaboration for the benefit of the two countries.

 Mr Justice Gomes said the story of relations between the countries was deeply rooted in their culture and heritage.

“I am delighted to further strengthen the relations between the two countries by sharing with you some relevant features of our policies,” he said.
