GHS to deploy health personnel to voter registration centres

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has directed its Regional Directors to assign dedicated health staff to every voter registration centre for the compilation of the new voter's register.

The Electoral Commission’s will next week commence a mass voter registration exercise which is expected to start from Tuesday, June 30, 2020 ,till August 6, 2020.

In a letter dated June 25, 2020, and signed by the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, the medical staff is to provide medical support during the exercise by sensitizing potential registrants on COVID 19 protocols as well as ensure the mandatory use of nose mask and making referrals where necessary.

“The Electoral Commission of Ghana is scheduled to commence the compilation of a new voters’ register. The exercise is expected to start from 30th June 2020 to 6th August 2020. As part of mitigating measures to prevent further spread of the disease, you are by this letter directed to assign and post dedicated health staff to each of the centres as per the attached list of published registration centres,” the statement directed.

He also encouraged Regional Directors to step up community engagement and sensitization activities on COvid 19 protocols within their various regions.
