Following an emergency meeting today, the GMA National Executive Council (NEC) announced a phased withdrawal of services starting Monday, July 15, 2024.

According to the GMA, Out Patient Department (OPD) services will be suspended from Monday July 15-17, 2024.

This will be followed by emergency services operating with minimal staff between July 18-21 and the total withdrawal of all medical services from July 22, 2024 onwards.

Phased Strike Action:

July 15th-17th: Out Patient Department (OPD) services will be suspended.
July 18th-21st: Emergency services will operate with minimal staff.
July 22nd onwards: Total withdrawal of ALL medical services.

"The GMA stands with Organized Labour in demanding transparency and accountability from SSNIT regarding the proposed hotel sale. We believe this deal is not in the best interest of Ghanaians and their future pensions," the statement said.

The GMA urged all members to adhere to the outlined strike roadmap, adding that further updates will be communicated by the National Executive Council.

This strike action is part of a larger movement led by Organized Labour, which declared an indefinite nationwide strike starting July 15, 2024.

The Secretary General of the Trades Union Congress, Dr. Yaw Baah urged all workers to abstain from their work on Monday, July 15 until the transaction is terminated.

“We find it extremely difficult to understand how and why NPRA will turn around to approve such a flawed deal …and so we will like to reiterate that the sale of SSNIT shares in the four hotels is not in the best interest of the country and we therefore demand that SSNIT terminates the deal immediately," he said.

“From Monday, July 15, 2024, all workers in Ghana must not go to work until SSNIT publicly announces the termination of the processes to sell its shares in the hotels.”
