15th Graphic Clinic free health screening records huge patronage

More than 500 residents of Adabraka in Accra and its environs turned up for this year’s Graphic Clinic free health screening exercise last Saturday.

The corporate social responsibility exercise was organised by the Graphic Clinic, the medical unit of Graphic Communications Group Ltd (GCGL), in Adabraka.

Held for the past 15 years, the exercise aims to promote healthy living and healthy lifestyle among the public, especially residents within the operational area of the company’s head office.

The day-long exercise was patronised by nursing mothers, the aged, youth and children.

Beneficiaries were screened for various health conditions, including hepatitis B and hepatitis C. Their blood pressure and blood sugar levels, diabetes, pulse rate, respiration rate, oxygen concentration level and body mass index were also checked. They were also examined for eye and dental diseases.

Patrons also received free medical consultation, free dietary advice and recommendations, as well as free medication in relevant cases.

The exercise was supported by other medical and corporate institutions and companies, including Synlab, Gokals Healthy Optionz, Serepa Dental Clinic, Ghana Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, MedGraph Laboratory, Melcom Group, Tobinco Group, Danpong Healthcare, Top-Up Pharmacy and Twellium Company Ltd.

The Corporate Communications Manager of the GCGL, Emmanuel Agyei Arthur, said the exercise was a way of giving back to the residents of Adabraka where the company operated.

"We believe that our survival as a company is dependent on the people who patronise our services and give us peace to operate. The way to go about this is to share our profit with them by ensuring they have good health," he said.

He commended and expressed gratitude to the institutions that supported the exercise and called on other corporate organisations and medical institutions to support the company to expand the scope of the exercise to cover other communities and the public.

Mr Arthur added that the GCGL was committed to ensuring that its patrons and community of operation were safe and that it would, therefore, continue to hold the annual health screening. 

Commendation, views

The Adabraka Manste, Nii Adjabeng II, lauded GCGL and the supporting companies for thinking about the welfare and well-being of the residents of Adabraka every year, adding that the exercise had made a significant impact on the lives of the people.

He urged beneficiaries to take the advice from the medical team on their conditions seriously and encouraged them to use the services of the clinic more to address their health challenges.

Victoria Commey, a nurse with Synlab, one of the supporting medical companies, commended the patrons for their openness and willingness to receive medical advice.

She said it was encouraging that people now appreciated medical checks as a right step to ensure healthy living.

A beneficiary, David Mensah, expressed gratitude to GCGL, saying: “It was an opportunity I could not forgo as checking one’s health condition is critical for healthy living”.

Another beneficiary, Joyce Mensah, also commended the medical team and GCGL for the friendly and orderly environment during the exercise, which included detailed communication about the results of the health screening.
