Academia exempted from no post-retirement contract directive — Haruna Iddrisu
The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has said that people in academia of higher learning will not be affected by the directive of government not to grant post-retirement contracts to people who attain the mandatory retirement age of 60.
Addressing the press in Accra, the minister said: "The essence of this briefing is to assure the men and women in academia that they are not affected by this decision."
He, therefore, added that faculty and faculty members in academia were exempted from the directive.
Approvals
Mr Iddrisu further said that for those in academia, they would have to go through their respective councils, and the public service, where necessary, for approvals to be granted.
"So the essence of this press briefing is just to assure academia, lecturers and students that the academic community lecturers in universities and other institutions of higher learning are exempted from the directive," he emphasised.
Directive
The minister reiterated that henceforth, retired public servants who attain the mandatory 60 years would not be granted post post-retirement contract.
"The government has taken a major decision on post-retirement contract of appointments to public service.
"For the retired public servant who has attained the age of 60, the new government’s strong position is not to grant a post-retirement contract," he said.
