The two-day exercise, aimed at providing essential and quality health care to underserved communities, formed part of the Rotary Club’s humanitarian service to bring together business and professional leaders to promote goodwill and peace through service to those in need.

Residents of the community, including children, were screened for various ailments and conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, diarrhoeal diseases, intestinal worms, skin conditions and malaria.

Beneficiaries were given free medication, while those identified with complications were referred to appropriate health facilities for further diagnoses and care.

The exercise was supported by organisations such as Tobinco Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Xpress Gas Ltd, Investeye Capital Partners, Alsons Pharmacy, Adimed Pharmacy and Halkom Pharmacy. Others included Alpha Pharma Unique Ltd, Mega Lifesciences Ghana Ltd, Nii Plants and Car Rental, A. K. Bannerman-William & Co, J. M. Addo and Sons Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Q-Capital Micro Finance, Voltron Jemen Ltd, Ink and Thread, Freedom Hills Hotel, and Corporate Intelligence Bureau.

Commitment

The President of the Club, Efosa Aibangbee, said they were committed to continuing the initiative to ensure that the people of Kotoso and its environs continued to benefit from it.

“We, as a club, with the support of our sponsors and donors, will do our utmost best to continue this life-changing initiative annually,” he added.

“Nothing makes the heart smile more than knowing one has made an invaluable contribution to the life of another,” he said.

The Past President (PP), Yaa Ohenewaa Nkrumah, said the club was planning its 4th edition of the free medical outreach and intended to expand the service to reach more communities.

She, therefore, appealed to companies and individuals to support the initiative.

Regular checkups

The lead doctor for the outreach, Dr Alex Menka, said there was a need for people to go for regular medical check-ups in order to know their health status.

He said early detection was the safest way to address complicated health issues, especially when most of the beneficiaries had no idea about their health status.

Dr Menka stressed the need for community health care, saying, “Our goal is to bridge the gap in healthcare accessibility. We believe that every individual, regardless of their financial situation, deserves access to quality healthcare services.”

The Assemblyman for the area, James Dornu Tanihu, expressed gratitude to the Rotary Club of Accra Ridge for bringing healthcare delivery to the doorstep of residents.

“This outreach has made a significant impact on the community as many residents face financial barriers to accessing medical care, and this initiative has provided a lifeline for those in need,” he said.

A beneficiary and resident of Kotoso, Leticia Galinor Agblevu, also expressed her appreciation to the club and expressed hope for future cooperation.

“Some of us have been struggling with our health for months but couldn’t afford to see a doctor. This programme has been a blessing to the community, providing screening, medication, and clothi
