Calbank NSS personnel renovate school building at Adenta

National Service Scheme (NSS) personnel who worked with Calbank PLC for the 2023-2024 service year have renovated a six-unit classroom block at the Sowa Din Basic School at Adenta in the Greater Accra Region.

The initiative, which cost GH¢170,000, was aimed at improving the teaching and learning environment by updating facilities and ensuring safety in the environment.

It will also help to create a more comfortable and modern space for both students and teachers to foster better educational outcomes.

Significance

Speaking at the handing over ceremony, the President of the 174-member group from across the bank’s branches in the country, Kevin Yeboah, said the project was aimed at significantly improving the learning environment for students in the school and community because the state of the building prior to the renovation did not augur well for effective teaching and learning.

Therefore, he said, the new project stood as a testament to what could be achieved when stakeholders pooled their resources and efforts with the goal of building a better future for the younger generation.

"This renovated school building stands as a testament to what we can achieve when we come together with a shared purpose," he added. The NSS personnel faced various challenges during the renovation process but we had to pull through to accomplish what we see here today," he said.

Gratitude

The Headmistress of the school, Selina Kokui Ahiaku, commended the group for their dedication and hard work.

"Your investment has not only transformed our physical environment but also uplifted the spirit of our learners and staff,” she added.

Ms Ahiaku said the newly refurbished block would benefit both the students and the community by providing a conducive learning environment.

"This will improve the learning environment and will help students to achieve better academic results," she stressed.

The Deputy Director, Monitoring and Supervision of the Adenta Municipal Education Directorate, Charlotte Asare-Nyarko, reiterated the commendation for the service personnel for their initiative, adding “You have made a significant contribution to the education of our children. We appreciate your support and encourage you to continue your good work.”
