Adoagyiri citizens appeal to IGP to investigate murder of 3

The people of Adoagyiri in the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area have appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, to investigate the murder of three men during the installation of a rival chief in the community in 2024.

The Abakomahene of Adoagyiri, Odiatuo Katakyie Afrifah, made the appeal through the Omanhene of Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area, Oseadeeyo Dr Frimpong Manso IV, at an emergency meeting of the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Council at Akyem Oda.

Background

Throwing more light on the issue, Odiatuo Afrifah said since time immemorial, Adoagyiri and its outlying communities belonged to the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area, with their chief also being the Adontenhene of Akyem Kotoku.

He said successive paramount chiefs of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area had tried fruitlessly to claim Adoagyiri.

In that effort, he said, the rival traditional system had lost many cases at both the law courts and the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs.

According to Odiatuo Afrifah, some elements had tried to install a rival chief at Adoagyiri in 2024.

He said that when the people of Adoagyiri protested against the illegality since they had a legitimate chief in the community in the person of Okoanadwo Afutu Dompreh II, land guards opened fire on innocent citizens, killing three of them instantly.

Odiatuo Afrifah said the people of Akyem Kotoku lodged a complaint with the Eastern South Regional Police Command at Kyebi, which is also the paramount seat of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area, but to date, no action has been taken against the suspected murderers.

The Omanhene of Akyem Kotoku State, Oseadeeyo Dr Frimpong Manso, promised to take the petition to the appropriate quarters for the necessary action to be taken against the perpetrators.

He, therefore, urged the aggrieved persons to exercise restraint for the police administration to investigate the matter and take the necessary action to promote lasting peace in Adoagyiri.
