The event has been scheduled for December 22-29, this year at its international headquarters at New Tadzewu in the Volta Region.

The Executive Committee of the General Conference, which is the highest decision making body of the church, said it had gathered information suggesting that former leader of the ARS, Rev. Nyeenyami Wovenu, was recruiting some young men to disrupt the celebration as he did last year.

The petition, dated December 4, 2023, and made available to the Daily Graphic last week Friday (December 9), was signed by Torgbi Awli IV, and Charles Agbolosoo, Chairman and member of the executive committee respectively.

“We believe peace is the foundation for development and it’s our desire to celebrate the 2023 anniversary of our church in peace and unity, and so, we humbly request you ensure personnel from the Volta Regional Police Command who may be detailed to protect us during the celebration carry out that duty with utmost professionalism,” the petition stated.

The petition said Rev.Nyeenyami Wovenu allegedly, recently boasted during an interview on an FM radio station at New Tadzewu that he recently met with the IGP, who told him he could go ahead with his own plans to celebrate the event, a story the executive committee deemed to be false.

The petition further stated that the Executive Committee of the ARS had taken a stance not to entertain the lawless conduct of Rev. Nyeenyami, “and his agents from Togo.”

However, the petition said, members of the executive committee had trust in the IGP to ensure law and order at the forthcoming event.

In the petition, members of executive committee also sought audience with the IGP on the date prior to the celebration of the 84th anniversary of the church.

The Daily Graphic on June 22, this year, carried a story on how the Sogakope High Court, presided over by Justice Doreen G. Boakye-Agyei convicted the former leader of the ARS church and Chairman of the General Conference, Rev. Nyeenyami Wovenu, and sentenced him to fines totalling GH 3,500 on two counts of contempt of court.
Rev. Nyeenyami Wovenu was to serve 24 days in prison in default of the fines.

Three other defendants in the case were also sentenced to various fines for their complicity in the case.

They were Raymond Wovenu, Nedo Wovenu, and Rev. Samuel Adjei.

The court’s judgment follows a suit brought before it by a member of ARS Charles Agbolosoo, and six others seeking reliefs of a declaration by the court that following the first General Conference of ARS in New Tadzewu on September 6, 2020, Rev. Nyeenyami Wovenu therein was no longer the leader of the church.

They also cited an order of perpetual injunction directed at Rev. Nyeenyami Wovenu, his servants, agents, privies, assigns, and successor in title, personal representative and any person claiming through him from holding himself out as the leader of the church of Chairman of the General Conference of the ARS.
