Assin Odumasi holds homecoming for citizens

The people of Assin Odumase in the Assin South District in the Central Region last Saturday organised a homecoming event to implement the development programmes for the town.

As part of the programme, the people generated over GH¢25,000 at a fundraising rally with the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin South, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, contributing GH¢2,000 and 20 bags of cement while the newly appointed District Chief Executive (DCE) Jonathan Birikorang donated GH¢500 and 10 bags of cement towards the development projects.

Speaking at the ceremony, the regent of Assin Odumase, Nana Kwabena Amoako, said the projects were being financed with proceeds from fundraising rallies and the payment of special development levies imposed on the citizens both at home and abroad.

Advise

Nana Amoako, known in private life as Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Daniel Amoako, who is the Sefwi Wiawso Divisional Police Commander, advised the citizens of the town to pay their special development levies in time to speed up the projects to give the community a facelift.

He said the proceeds realised at fundraising rallies in 2022 and 2023 were used to construct a modern durbar ground while that of 2024 were utilised for the construction of some streets in the town.

Nana Amoako added that the money realised this year would be used to construct more streets in the community.

He cautioned the youth of the community to eschew negative tendencies such as the consumption of narcotic drugs such as Indian hemp, cocaine, tramadol and ‘red’, which were counterproductive and also injurious to their health.

Nana Amoako enjoined the people in the area not to regard cultural practices and traditions as heathen, but they should rather respect and adore them.

Promise

The MP for Assin South, Rev. Ntim Fordjour, promised to team up with the new DCE, Mr Jonathan Birikorang, to initiate viable development programmes to uplift the district.

He, however, admonished the National Democratic Congress government to reactivate all uncompleted development projects by the New Patriotic Party government, such as the modern STEM facility at Assin Enyiresi and the Agenda 111 health project and complete them in the interest of the people.

He was full of praise for the chiefs and people of Assin Odumase for their self-help spirit and urged other communities in the district to take a cue from them.

Rev. Ntim Fordjour assured the people of his unflinching support for them at all times and urged them to contact him anytime they were in need.

The new DCE for Assin South, Mr Birikorang said he had identified some of the major problems of the area which included deplorable roads, lack of school blocks and qualified teachers and promised to contact the government to find lasting solutions to them.

He said he was aware of the serious unemployment problems facing the youth in the area and promised to contact the relevant government agencies to address them.
