PURC pays tribute to former Board Chairman
The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has visited and commiserated with the family of its former Board Chairman, Professor Thomas Akabzaa, who passed away shortly after being sworn in as Chairman.
A delegation who visited the bereaved family on behalf of the PURC described Prof. Akabzaa’s death as a monumental loss to both the commission and the nation at large, and conveyed its profound grief over his unexpected passing.
The delegation included the Executive Secretary of the PURC, Dr Shafic Suleman, Dr Hawawu Salifu, Dr Humphray, Prof. Ebenezer, and Dr Kwabena Nyarko Otoo, all members of the PURC as well as a former Director of External Affairs at the PURC, Nana Yaa Akyempim Jantuah.
Members of the delegation signed the book of condolence, extending the commission’s heartfelt sympathies to the grieving family.
Public servant
On behalf of the delegation, Ms Jantuah paid a glowing tribute to the late academic and public servant, recalling his distinguished tenure as Chief Director at the Ministry of Energy.
She commended his unwavering commitment to public service, lauding his principled leadership and adherence to professional integrity.
“Though he did not have the chance to formally commence his role at PURC, we are certain that his leadership would have brought immense value to the commission. His passing is a profound loss,” she remarked.
Support
As a gesture of solidarity, the commission presented 20 cartons of bottled water and 20 cartons of assorted soft drinks to the bereaved family.
The commissioners further pledged their full participation in the upcoming funeral rites, committing to ensuring a dignified farewell for the late Professor.
