Boys’ dormitory of Osu Children’s Home gets facelift

The boys’ dormitory at the Osu Children’s Home, referred to as House One Home Unit, has received a facelift following renovation works undertaken by power producer Karpowership Ghana.

The renovation works, which have completely transformed the dormitory, included major carpentry work to repair damaged doors and windows, masonry work to fix cracks and plumbing repairs.

Also, the work included tiling, painting, installing new beds and mattresses and fitting ceiling fans.

Karpowership handed over the dormitory to the facility's management at a ceremony last Thursday.

As part of the ceremony, Karpowership also donated food items and confectionery, as part of its ‘Christmas comes early’ initiative.

The event also featured a delightful highlight with Santa Claus making a surprise appearance, sharing goodies, confectionery and treats with the children—filling the Home with excitement and festive cheer.

Handing over the keys to the dormitory, the Managing Director of Karpowership Ghana, Oscar Amonoo-Neizer, said the renovation reflected the company’s strong belief in community partnership and supporting people, irrespective of age and stature, to live in dignity.

He explained that the decision to renovate the boys’ dormitory was guided by direct consultations with the Home and reaffirmed Karpowership’s broader contributions to education, youth development and community infrastructure across Ghana.

“At Karpowership, we are not just powering homes—we are passionate about powering lives. Restoring this space means giving these children hope, dignity and a better chance at a brighter future,” he said.

Safe haven

The Member of Parliament for La Dade-Kotopon and Deputy Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, praised Karpowership for what she described as a “remarkable show of corporate responsibility and compassion”, noting that the renovation of the boys’ dormitory further enhanced the safe haven the facility is, as it would provide the children a conducive place to sleep, help them rejuvenate and improve their overall well-being.

She encouraged more companies to emulate the initiative, stressing that supporting vulnerable children is a collective duty.

Representing the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, the Deputy Director for Children’s Welfare, Agnes Abolimpoh, expressed profound appreciation to Karpowership for the renovation.

She said the gesture reinforced the adage that it takes a community to raise a child and commended the company for this significant intervention.

“This project directly enhances the well-being and dignity of the boys in this home.

We are grateful for this timely and meaningful intervention,” Ms Abolimpoh.

The Manager of the Osu Children’s Home, Reindorf Dartey, also expressed heartfelt gratitude.

He noted that House One had not seen any major renovation since its construction.
