Dansoman Knights and Ladies of Marshall launch anniversary
The Dansoman branch of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall, a society in the Catholic Church, has launched its 20th anniversary celebration in Accra.
The Grand Knight of the Council 71 (male wing), Brother Dr Innocent Adzamli, with support from the Noble Lady of the Court 63 (female wing), Sis. Juliet Amah, launched the milestone at the St Mary Margaret Parish at Dansoman in Accra.
The year-long celebration, dubbed ‘20 years of pacesetting works and service’, will be characterised by series of activities, including tree planting, spiritual exercises and retreats, health walk, family games, quiz competition, and banquet and awards night.
The Marshallan fraternity was founded in 1926 in Sekondi in the Western Region to, among other things, honour, defend, promote and live the Catholic faith.
It was also to render assistance to its members and their families in periods of need and to assist in building the spirituality of members along the Catholic faith.
However, the Dansoman branch of the society, christened Council 71 and Court 63 for the male and female wings respectively, was consecrated in 2000.
Instrumental role
Launching the milestone, Dr Adzamli said the organisation had, since its consecration, played an instrumental role in the welfare of the Catholic Church and society through its services and charity works.
He said during its first anniversary commemoration, the council and court handed over a Marian Grotto to the St Margaret Mary Parish, a move he said was the first to be done in the history of any new court or council.
“We have also undertaken numerous projects and services in the areas of health, education and other social intervention initiatives, both within and outside the church,” he stated.
Touching on some successes chalked up by the organisation, he said the society, which started with 30 brothers and 34 sisters, had grown in membership with the current figures for its brothers and sisters standing at 140 And 165 respectively.
“We expect this number to increase as the years go by. Additionally, our doors are always open for new members,” he stated.
Tree planting
The Chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee, Sir Knight Yaw Osei-Poku, said the tree-planting exercise, which would begin from its new temple at Dansoman, formed part of its efforts to safeguard the environment from degradation.
