DVLA releases 2025 DV plates

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has officially released the 2025 DV plates across all its operational offices in Ghana, incorporating advanced security features to prevent counterfeiting and ensure authenticity.

The new plates represent a major step forward in vehicle registration and licensing and the enhanced security features include holograms, watermarks and QR codes, all designed to prevent unauthorised duplication and protect vehicle owners.

The 2025 DV plates are now available nationwide, allowing vehicle owners, automobile dealers, distributors, freight forwarders, and agents to acquire them at any DVLA operational office.

Improvement

Announcing the release of the new plates, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of DVLA, Julius Neequaye Kotey, said the action demonstrated the Authority’s commitment to leveraging technology to enhance security and convenience for its customers.

“We are excited to introduce the 2025 DV plate, which represents a significant improvement in vehicle registration and licensing in Ghana," he stated.

Caution, regulation

The DVLA, in collaboration with the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, has also issued a strong warning against the use or trade of counterfeit DV plates.

It warned that efforts were underway to track down and prosecute individuals engaged in such illegal activities.

The DV trade licence plates are issued to vehicles that are unregistered but which, for various reasons, have to ply the roads.

The use of the Trade Licence Plates is subject to the Road Traffic Act, 2004 (Act 683), Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L. I. 2180) and policies specified by the DVLA.

These include the trade licence plate being sold only by the DVLA and no other person/entity while the trade licence will be valid for only one year.

Also, an issued trade licence plate cannot be used on more than one motor vehicle at any one time, except in the case of a motor vehicle drawing a trailer and used for a prescribed purpose.
