
GJA opens nominations for national, regional elections
The election committee of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has opened nominations for the election of national and regional officers of the association.
The elections will be conducted on Monday, June 30, 2025.
A statement issued by the committee on May 16 and signed by its Chairman, Peter Martey Agbeko, said the nominations officially opened on the same day and would close on May 30, this year.
"This makes a key milestone in the democratic calendar of the association, and the committee urges all eligible members with passion and competence to lead the association at either the national or regional level to step forward and pick up nomination forms," the statement added.
The statement said the country's Electoral Commission (EC) would oversee the conduct of the elections.
Positions
The national positions to be contested for are president, vice-president, general secretary, organising secretary, treasurer and public affairs officer.
At the regional level, the positions that are up for grabs are chairman, vice-chairman, secretary and treasurer.
Requirements
According to the election committee, the filing fees for the national president’s position were GH¢5,000, while other national positions attracted GH¢3,000.
For regional positions, the chairperson aspirants would pay GH¢1,500, while other aspirants are required to pay GH¢1,000.
Vetting
Per the vetting schedule, all nominated candidates for national positions will be vetted at the International Press Centre in Accra from Tuesday, June 3, to Thursday, June 5, this year.
"Regional candidates will be vetted virtually during the same period, and the results of the vetting will be published on Friday, June 6," the committee added.
Providing further details on the election process, the committee said balloting for positions for both national and regional candidates would be done on Monday, June 9, with official campaigning starting immediately after balloting up to Saturday, June 28.
The committee said the voter register would be published on Friday, May 30, followed by the issuance of the election calendar on May 19, and the elections on June 30.
"The election committee is currently finalising all necessary arrangements to ensure a credible, free, and transparent election process," the committee said.
