Help develop communities - Philanthropist appeals to Ghanaians
The Founder of Work Meaningful Foundation, a non-governmental organisation based in the United States (US), Justin Jones Fosu, has appealed to Ghanaians living abroad to return home and help in the development of their communities.
He said there was a need for citizens to contribute their quota in making life more meaningful for their people.
He said some of them may not be in a position to help financially, but could use their network to seek support for their communities.
Inauguration
Mr Fosu, a native of Akyeremade in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region, made the appeal when he inaugurated a one-storey two-unit six-classroom block for the Akyeremade D/A Basic School in Atwima Kwanwoma District.
The school was built through the support and donations from his friends and members of the foundation from the US.
The project, he said, was to promote quality education in Akyeremade and its surrounding communities and to give the children a good start in life.
He said through education, one could achieve anything they set out to do, irrespective of their economic background.
He pledged to continue to support quality education in the district in whichever way he could.
The project, which started in 2023 following his visit to the community and realising the needs of the community, took less than two years to complete.
He said in 2019, he came home and visited the school, saw the challenges it was facing and decided to rally his friends to support the school.
He said the money for the project did not come from his personal pocket but from friends and family, and he believed that everyone could do that.
He thus reiterated the call on all and sundry to use their network to support the development of their communities and ease their sufferings.
Plans
He said there were plans to build an ICT laboratory for the school and a primary school block, among others, for the school.
The Headmaster of the school, Samuel Asante, on behalf of the School Management Committee, expressed their appreciation to the Work Meaningful Foundation for their support, which, he said, would bring relief to students, teachers and the community.
Another challenge facing the school, he said, was the lack of an ICT laboratory, and he was grateful that the foundation intended to build one for them.
