Inauguration immaculately planned, well coordinated — Spectators

Some Ghanaians have expressed hope in President John Dramani Mahama's comeback, with many optimistic about the positive change and brighter future his new term may bring.

The national commentator for the ceremony, Teye Kitcher, told the Daily Graphic that the event was immaculately planned and  was grander than any he had witnessed in the Fourth Republic.

“Here we have a President with the biggest endorsement in our history, here we are with the first female Vice-President.

When you look at the people, the number of heads of state and former heads of state present, it is unprecedented. I counted not less than 60.

It has not happened before, in my time of running commentary, I have not seen anything like this before,” Mr Kitcher, vintage voice on the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) for about three decades, said.

The retired broadcaster said the happenings of yesterday were a testament that the country was on a good path.

A social media influencer, known as KalyJay, said the event was well coordinated and he was hopeful that such seriousness would be applied in the governance of the country.

Problems

However, he said, the problems facing the country were many and needed urgent attention to resolve them.

“From corruption to accountability, to job creation, unemployment and building a legacy for John Mahama himself, looking at his track record, I believe he is up to the task,” KalyJay said.

The Head of Corporate Communications at the Jospong Group, Sophia Kudjordji, who was spotted at the inauguration, told the Daily Graphic that while she was hopeful for a better tomorrow, she was concerned about the mindset of Ghanaians, particularly towards sanitation.

She said the speech of the President indicated that there was hope for the future and “we know that things are going to be better”.

Ms Kudjordji pleaded with Ghanaians to be one another’s keeper and have a shared responsibility towards keeping the environment clean.
