The Ministry of the Interior has ordered a full-scale investigation into claims of assassination attempts on the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng.
The ministry said its initial contacts with Mr Agyebeng revealed that the assassination attempts on him happened before this year. However, records of the assassination attempt did not exist.
“There is no record or report of such threats against his life at any police station or at any of the state security agencies in the country,” a statement released in Accra yesterday and signed by the ministry and signed by the Interior Minister, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, stated.
He stressed that since crime did not expire, the issue must be revisited and addressed as required by law.
The Interior Ministry, the statement said, had taken up the serious claims by the Director of Strategy, Research and Communications at the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), Samuel Appiah Darko, on Newsfile, a television current affairs show, on December 6, 2025 of an assassination attempt on Mr Agyebeng while discharging his duties to the republic.
Mr Darko also claimed on the same programme that he had been handcuffed and beaten by 17 police personnel.
His narratives were to support the point that the OSP faced challenges in the discharge of its duties.
The Ministry of the Interior said beyond the security implications of the claims, such dangers to personnel of accountability institutions, if true, could undermine the government's efforts to combat corruption, which had intensified since it took office.
“The ministry has therefore taken up the matter with the seriousness it deserves,” the statement said.
Preliminary findings
It said initial contacts with Mr Agyebeng had revealed that the assassination attempts on him happened before this year.
“There is no record or report of such threats against his life at any police station or at any of the state security agencies in the country,” the statement added.
The release said the minister had also ordered an investigation into the claim by Mr Darko that he was handcuffed and beaten by 17 police personnel.
“The ministry will update the public on the outcome of these investigations and the actions to be taken,” the statement said.
“The Ministry of Interior reiterates its commitment to protecting all lives and properties to ensure that all Ghanaians can conduct all their lawful affairs without any fear for their safety,” the statement added.
